Book Review: Don’t Believe Everything You Think

Don’t Believe Everything You Think by Joseph Nguyen

By Marc W. Polite

Changing your thinking is one of the first steps necessary to change anything. That is much harder than it sounds, so it is understandable that people may need help with making a mind shift. Recently, I picked up a book titled Don’t Believe Everything You Think by Joseph Nguyen. Full disclosure: this is my first purchase from the Tik-Tok shop. I normally don’t buy into every suggestion on the “For You” page, but this caught my eye.

Having read it, I can say that there were a few helpful nuggets of wisdom in the book. While its impossible to turn one’s life around immediately, the needed shift can happen in stages.  Chapter 8 in my opinion was particularly helpful, since it got into how one can tap into the state of flow. In other words, when you are “in the zone” and not overthinking everything. While this writer does not believe that emotional suffering is optional- (there are times when it’s just unavoidable), “Don’t Believe Everything You Think” does give some insight into how to reduce some aspects of psychological suffering.

Its a short book, but it is to the point. It is fairly standard as self-help books go, but it can help you process.
