Everything I Miss At Home

POS: Tell us about Everything I Miss At Home. It’s angle is a bit different for an Urban Literature novel.

Dawn: Everything I Miss At Home is a sexy urban corporate soap opera. It’s really edgy and intimate and has a very voyeuristic feel to it. I wrote in a way to unnerve the reader a bit. The book is written in first person to establish the true moral of the story, and that is that you never truly know what someone else is thinking even if you are in a professional or personal relationship with that person. The intimacy of the story is raw, and feels very visual. Everything I Miss At Home is loaded with themes of duality. Everything we think we want or wish for is not what it seems, and that includes the people we feel that would perfect our lives, in a personal or professional sense.

POS: Why did you choose to self-publish? Was it for the purpose of maintaining creative control?

Dawn: I chose to self publish for creative control as well as maintaining ownership of my intellectual property.

POS: How was your work received at the Harlem Book Fair? Will you be attending the Baltimore Urban Book Fair?

Dawn: It was very humbling to be received next to people like Zane and CEO Azarel. I was inspired and in awe. I have been invited to the Baltimore Book Fair and will likely make an appearance.

POS: Do you have any upcoming projects or appearances you want to talk about?

Dawn: I will be on air doing more interviews and promoting Everything I Miss At Home with fervor in the next few months. This summer I plan to be out there so much people get sick of seeing me :))

POS: What advice would you give to writers who want to venture into self-publishing?

Dawn: The main thing is making sure you have a promotional budget after completing your manuscript and selecting distribution. There is no point in releasing a book no one can access. I would recommend creating a marketing plan prior to the release date of the novel and hiring a professional to target market your book to your niche audience.

I’d like to thank Dawn for taking the time to speak with us tonight. You can find out more about Everything I Miss At Home on the official website. The book is also available via iTunes, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.
