Good afternoon, my readers. Yesterday, I attended the Schomburg Literary Festival 2026. This year in particular was noteworthy- with it being the 100th year anniversary of the founding of the Schomburg Center. This is why the event was billed as the Schomburg Centennial Festival.

The Harlem Writers Guild were among the vendors, and as a member, I was present there discussing my books, and the history of the Guild. Also in attendance were fellow HWG members Judy Andrews, Eartha Watts-Hicks, Kendall Glaspie, Angela Dews, and our Executive Director Diane Richards.

This major NYC research institution opened its doors to the public to celebrate literacy, and to give patrons an opportunity to visit some of the exhibits and attend discussions.
Vendors like Harper Collins had a table, and gave away books to attendees. Total Equity Now, a literacy advocacy organization based in Harlem, partnered with food vendor Avrilillilly’s to share ice cream on a hot Saturday afternoon.

The day of literature ended with a block party that featured recording artists Rakim and Teedra Moses as performers.
All in all, it was an eventful day. For those that missed the Harlem Writers Guild, please note that our books are available in the Schomburg Center Book Shop.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by yesterday, even if it was just to say hello.
I have a gap in between now and my next author appearance. Once those details are confirmed, I will share with you all as usual.
Until next post, peace!
