Greetings, my readers. 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the United States. The Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776, and as many of you recall from history class, it was the beginning of the breakaway from Great Britain.
While we live in challenging times, the definition of what the Declaration of Independence means today is up for a great deal of interpretation. Is the United States living up to its promises? One recently opened exhibit puts forth a multitude of answers.
Enduring Promise: The Declaration of Independence at 250 is a new exhibit at the Museum of Jersey City History. It is an interactive exhibit, featuring the written word, art, video, and even a hologram of historical figures. MJCH, which opened in 2021, is a center dedicated to preserving the history of Jersey City. Originally known as The Apple Tree House, the space was converted to a museum. It also happens to be the second oldest house in Jersey City. The exhibit opening reception last week brought out members of the community, politicians and poets.
Enduring Promise is now open, and you may visit the museum on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1pm to 5pm.
