Greetings all! As you know, its Writer Wednesday. This time, I’d like to introduce you to another blogger who is making the jump into writing a book of their own. Missy B. Salick, who is the editor in chief of Virgo Girl Media, has a forthcoming book called “Write Your Dreams.” Today, we take the time to discuss with Missy what inspires her as a writer, and who she hopes to reach out to.
Polite On Society: Who is Missy Salick and where are you from?
Missy Salick: Who is Missy….hmmm it depends on what time of day it is {chuckles}. I am a wearer of many hats, mother, #girlboss, employee, writer, blogger, friend and the list continues… I was born a month too soon, in Takoma Park, MD and raised in the “new Manhattan”, Brooklyn.
POS: You are the editor in chief of The Virgo Girl website. How have your insights as a blogger informed the kind of content you choose to publish on your site?
MS: As a blogger, I know what I would want to be reading or learning from other articles, so I prefer to publish content that I know my audience will gain something from; whether inspiration, motivation, knowledge or a quick minute vacation of entertainment from reality.
POS: Tell us about your latest project, Write Your Dreams.
MS: Write Your Dreams is an inspirational eBook created with one purpose, to inspire writers and authors to continue writing. As writers in any facet, blogging, books, digital content, etc., I believe it’s easy for us to get distracted or to lose focus with our passion. Since we are not highlighted or even compensated on the same level as other creative artists, doesn’t mean that we aren’t artists just the same or that we aren’t “sensitive about our shit”. So, this book is for “us” who put the words on paper – to continue writing no matter the journey.
POS: What in your opinion, is the biggest barrier for people who want to write a book?
MS: In my opinion, the biggest barrier for people who want to write a book is finding the time or focus to actually write the book. How many times have you told someone that you have written or currently writing a book and they go, oh really how cool, I have a great story….then drifts off to telling you about it and how they have had the idea for years, but never wrote even one page.
Writing a book takes a lot of time, dedication and energy. In 2017, we have come a long way from handwriting on paper to typewriters, to now being able to talk out our stories – but at the end of the day you still have to commit to telling the story and have it make sense.
POS: What do you hope that aspiring writers can take away from Write Your Dreams?
MS: I hope that aspiring writers will be encouraged to write. Writing can be a lonely long journey, but you’re not alone. There are so many of us and now thanks to social media we can all be connected with a simple click.
