Working During A Pandemic

One of the hardest things to do is to work from home. People think it’ll be easy, but then they’re at their home computers and trying to stay motivated, but the TV and the refrigerator beckon and distract. It’s not a simple thing to work from home when you’re not used to it, and so many people are now faced with doing precisely that due to COVID-19.

While the politicians are putting on a happy face and trying not to scare people, they haven’t moved fast enough in many places. Of course, politicians are under a lot of pressure, as this Bradley University blog post indicates for the fact they have needed counseling after election times. However, the world is in crisis, and we have all been thrust into a situation that we know nothing about. It’s so important that we learn quickly about working from home so that we can all get it right. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you to work effectively from home while you are in quarantine.

Start Over-Communicating. You can’t show that you’re working hard at home in the same way that you can when in the office. No one is seeing you working; they can only go with what you’re putting through online. So, you need to make sure that you are coming across well. Get onto video chat and indulge in face-to-face communication with your colleagues. Get on the phone and email and make sure you’re chatting. You lose a lot of the camaraderie of the office when you have to work from home, so you need to do what you can to show that you are open and available!

Remember: This Is Isolation. Loneliness is one of the most significant complications of working from home. There is far less adult interaction, and you need to be able to work without the stress. Just because politicians are turning to therapy to cope with pressure doesn’t mean that you have to if you can avoid it. You can be friendly online when you are working from home, and you need to be consistent with checking yourself for it.

Make Sure You Have “You” Time. Stick to your working hours. If you finish work at 5pm, usually continue working until 5pm. Routine is so crucial for your work and for your mental health, and a part of that will be in not letting your working day spill over into your time for yourself and your family.

Create Work Routines. You need to ensure that you are sticking to the same working routines as you would in the office. We are allowed to go for a walk per day for exercise, so incorporate that into your day, and you will be far better off! As we said, the routine is so vital for success, so make sure that you keep your usual work routines in place as much as possible.

Your remote working routine doesn’t have to be a lonely time; you can learn how to work through this pandemic.
