Good evening, my readers. I hope everyone is staying safe in the midst of this major snowstorm. I’ve been very productive while being shut in with the snow. By productive, I mean totally goofing off, playing video games and watching Star Trek.
Since we’re talking about Star Trek, I have had an opportunity to see the new series, Starfleet Academy. Three episodes in, I am enjoying the show. I have been seeing in way too many social media spaces the unwarranted backlash against this show. These sentiments are coming from some of the same people who for some odd reason couldn’t get behind Star Trek: Discovery. I think some of you can guess why.
If you’re a Trek fan, I recommend you ignore those folks. For a show with a 60 year legacy, it’s amazing that there’s enough lore to still come up with a different cast of characters and pursue another storyline. The subtext in the show is a younger generation having to contest with life in the galaxy after a catastrophic event takes place. There’s absolutely no parallel between that premise and life in 2026- don’t read too “deeply” into that.
This premise, and an interesting villain is enough reason to keep me watching. Disregard the review bombing and watch the first episode for yourself.
