Good evening, my readers. Another week is upon us. I have a really quick post that I want to share with everyone.
There are times when we have to understand that everyone is not our assignment. Some of us might want to put other people on, or not allow them to stay wallowed in backwards thinking. But, the harsh reality is, you can exhaust yourself by attempting to save people from their own lack of knowledge.
Some of you know that I’m into science and astronomy. It’s been a side interest that I’ve been delving into more in my spare time.
Likely because of that interest, the algorithms of the social media spaces I’m on saw fit to show me excerpts from a recent podcast about a scholar arguing with people who believe the Earth is flat. These clips from the Joe Budden podcast of Dr. Marc Lamont Hill arguing against Ish over the matter have gone viral.
It makes for great podcasting, but dealing with people like that on a regular basis can be exasperating. Personally, once someone makes it clear that they are standing ten toes down in an erroneous belief, and are engaging just to argue, I have little patience for that. I take a step back, and understand that it is not my assignment to bring everyone out of wilful ignorance.
It is much harder to teach adults than children these days. Bottom line, don’t let people exhaust your goodwill. That’s my thoughts for the moment. Peace.
