Polite On Society Under Bitcoin Blackmail Threat

By Marc W. Polite

Good morning, my readers. The above article title is jarring, but it is not a joke. In what feels like a Black Mirror episode, it seems that I am being watched. It might be random, or several of my posts have ticked off someone. Go figure, ha! It came to my attention Monday evening that this site is the apparent target of Bitcoin hungry blackmail artists. I received the following message via my Contact page on this blog.

“Your reputation and business are at stake!

We on your behalf in the message your website address politeonsociety.com and your contact information (including in social. Networks and messengers) will send:

We already have everything ready to launch all of the above, but we decided to give you a chance to avoid all this, you can buy off a small amount of money.

Make a payment, transfer 0.39 Bitcoins to this address

We are waiting for the transfer from you until November 27, on Saturday November 28, if payment does not come from you, we will begin to destroy your business and you along with it.”

End message

I have filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission, the Internet Crime Complaint Center, and shored up the digital defenses that I have available to me. I have no intention of complying with this blackmail effort, come what may. This site was hacked back in 2018, so I am erring on the side of caution. I am informing you of this all in advance in case this is for real, and you start to see messages from this site or other spaces that seem to be coming from me. Either I am about to become really infamous, or these folks are just out to get anyone they can. It truly is scamming season.

Someone really don’t rock with what I have to say, and is out to squash a small, independent Black run website. Even under this threat, I refuse to “Shut Up and Dance” If this site gets attacked Saturday, you’ll know why. Either way, this captain has to brace for impact.

Anyway, take care, and the countdown to this Saturday deadline begins. Tick, tock, tick tock.
