R.I.P. Richard Hatch

Good evening folks. As many of you who read my blog may know, I am a big fan of science fiction. I heard about an hour or so ago that the actor Richard Hatch died at the age of 71. Science fiction heads know him for playing Captain Apollo in the 1978 version of Battle Star Galactica. He also played politician and former terrorist Tom Zarek in the 2003 reimagined BSG series.

The newer  BSG series ended a while ago, and in this writer’s opinion, very few shows have made such an impact since. Epic space opera science fiction with a cross of commentary on religion and the war on terror is not easy to duplicate. That’s what the new show was, and more. It was also said that Hatch had a lot to do with the new series coming back. An accomplishment for a 25 year old show at that time.

The fans will miss Mr. Hatch. “So say we all”
