Well, here we are folks. No matter how you may feel about it, Donald Trump has beat Hillary Clinton in the general election for president of the United States.
Historically speaking, Hillary Clinton was a long shot anyway. It’s very rare in American history that the same political party wins three presidential elections in a row. The last time that happened was when Ronald Reagan had two terms, and George H.W. Bush won to succeed him.
The questions that people are loathing to ask is about the role of the primary shenanigans on the Democratic side in this thing. Could Bernie Sanders have pulled out a win? We’ll never really know.
But, what we do know is that this country has willingly embraced an openly racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic candidate in the person of Donald J. Trump. This will be a difficult time for progressive minded folks as well as people of color. In our post election analyses, let’s not turn on one another and point fingers. This is what most of the country wanted. We will need one another more than ever.
