Good evening folks. So here we are, in the last week of February with five days left where we are “allowed” to talk about Black history.
While personally, I enjoy the events that take place this month, it at times feels like we are in a history loop. What do I mean? Let me give you one example.
Today on my social media networks, I shared a question. “When you think of writers from Harlem in the past ten to fifteen years, what names spring to mind?” I got a few answers, but it wasn’t an avalanche.
Those in the know can easily mention the greats of the Harlem Renaissance, but recently its a struggle. What I’m getting at, is have we stopped creating a literary legacy, or is it just that people are overlooked?
In 20 years, will we have to go back to the 1920s and 30s to point out the tradition? Just some thoughts for you all this evening. What say you?
Today’s writers and their contributions not considered as reverent as past history makers. Yes, many are overlooked.
