Renisha McBride Case Evokes Familiar Sentiments

It appears to be happening all over again. This summer, Black America was outraged by the verdict of the Zimmerman trial. The reality that a teenager was murdered in cold blood, and the man that did it got away with it was a blow to us all. Here we are, not even six months later mulling over the case of Renisha McBride who was blown away asking for help.

Gun culture is out of control. Video blogger Jay Smooth had an insightful perception back in July when all the internet was ablaze with talk of what would happen in the aftermath of a Zimmerman not guilty verdict. “The fundamental danger of an acquittal is not more riots, its more George Zimmermans.” It seems like Theodore Wafer is the next to use self-defense as cover for killing a teenager. Here we are again, another incident to emotionally contend with while the wounds on the last are still fresh. Is it just me, or do you feel like you already know how this is going to end? Apparently, drunk people banging on doors deserve to be shot in the eyes of some.

With news of George Zimmerman in trouble with the law again (surprise, surprise) now a few are starting to recognize a pattern of violence. This is the type of behavior that is indirectly encouraged when this society values gun culture over human life.
