POS: You were recently featured in the New York Times for your work with Rent the Runway. How was that experience?
TH: Being featured in the New York Times was an experience that I never imagined. Who would have imagined renting a dress to launch my business would lead to representing ‘real’ women in the NY Times? I used to feel like a lot of women who do not possess a model-like figure and seek perfect attire for those special occasions. Therefore, when I found the dress, I was compelled to share my experience with the owners of Rent the Runway. My experience was in alignment with their new approach to marketing their attire – using real women models.
In addition to the NY Times article, Rent the Runway invited me to appear on Good Morning America for their fashion segment. Now if you think I was excited to appear in the NY Times, just think of how elated I was to represent real women on Good Morning America. I am still excited and humbled by the experience; if that makes any sense. Here is something interesting, the week prior to being on GMA, I posted my daily meditation in social media that read, “Abundance will come from sources known and unknown.”
POS: What advice would you give to an individual who is inspired by your example and wants to start their own venture?
TH: If you want to start your own venture, take a leap of faith and just do it! Here is a little food for thought/straight talk.
Do not live in the world of shoulda, coulda, woulda.
You will become worn out thinking about where you could be if you had only taken the leap of faith. Stop placing your passion on pause. It will not disappear until you take action. If you are waiting for the ‘right time’ perhaps it is now. Confused about where to start, a good starting point is talking about it to others.Contact me. I’m going to push you out the nest. And you will begin to fly into your passion.
