National Black Writers Conference 2026 Recap

NBWC 2026

By Marc W. Polite

Greetings, everyone. I attended the last day of the four day National Black Writers Conference 2026. Held at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, it is an event that brings writers and readers from all over the country.

I was selected as one of several book vendors.

I had set up shop in the lobby a bit before 10am. Way too early, but that’s just how I do.

While waiting in between panel sessions, I had the opportunity to speak with some of the other authors who were selling their books also.

Author Nzinga LeJeune was present, with an interesting novel called The Detroit Housewives League. It is about a group of Black women who organized economic boycotts in the 1930s. It is based on an actual historical occurrence.

Tanasia Poke, author of Surrendering to Soft Living was there also. It is a book of guided self transformation.

The early afternoon sessions gave interested conference attendees a lot to reflect on. The theme of environmental justice led to a few conversations on sustainability and how it is practiced.

The great thing about writers conferences are the like-minded people you come across. It can be just the things you learn that make it worth attending.

Overall, NBWC 2026 was great. I was glad to see familiar faces and meet new people who came by my literature table.

Also, something very interesting happened yesterday. As some of you know, my most recent book is a children’s book, Stand On Ganymede. I sold out of all of those books I had on hand. This makes me… shudder… a sell out. Who knew? Lol.

Anyway, before I put in my order to re-up on those books, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who stopped through yesterday.

Until next author appearance, take care everyone.
