Pushback on AI- Data Center Canceled in New Brunswick

Good afternoon, my readers. Artificial Intelligence is upsetting the apple cart. Whether it’s implementation in day-to-day work, or companies doing all they can to encourage us that “this is the future”, AI is ever-present. I want to share with you one example where a community has pushed back against Artificial Intelligence. In New Brunswick, New Jersey, a proposed data center was canceled after the community rallied against it. Residents and community activists made their voices heard with the city council, and due to the pushback, the slated data center was scrapped. Even better, the space will be converted to a local park.

Those who have observed the downsides of data centers realize that they are resource draining, in terms of water and electricity. To make matters worse, the data centers also result in higher electric bills for the areas they serve.

It’s important to realize that this kind of activism is occurring. When we see retrograde politics all around us, appearing to win the day, it’s important to stop and recognize a win for the people when it happens.
