Good afternoon, my readers. Yesterday, the news broke about hip hop recording artist John Forte and his passing. Not being quite sure what to say, I paused for a moment.

As of this moment, no cause of death has been released. This hit me a bit, honestly.

For those who may not remember, let’s go back to the ’90s for a minute. John Forte was one of the artists who was active with The Fugees, having notable appearances on many tracks. Featuring prominently on the Wyclef single “Staying Alive”, Forte would eventually release his debut album “Poly Sci” in 1998.

Also, who can forget the posse cut that he was on from the movie “When We Were Kings?” The track “Rumble in The Jungle” with the Fugees, Tribe Called Quest, and Busta Rhymes featured him too. A conscious song that was an undeniable hit.

There was a well-known article in the Village Voice that interviewed John Forte, Big Pun, Mos Def, DMX, and Canibus as the up and coming rappers of that time. All of this came back to me as I think about John Forte.

May he rest in peace.
