Greetings, everyone. A thought crossed my mind recently. This post is my attempt to expound on that initial thought. As a student of history, it occurred to me that this year, the United Nations will be 80 years old. The UN charter was originally signed on June 26th, 1945 by the founding conference in San Francisco.
For those who may not understand the significance, the U.N. came into being while World War 2 was still raging. The purpose of the United Nations, one amongst many, is to avoid another costly worldwide conflagration.
In the current context of major powers instigating regional conflicts that can quickly escalate into broader conflicts, this writer thinks that it’s important to keep this history in mind. Some have openly stated that the aggressive maneuvers of the Trump Administration threaten to bring the world to the brink of a Third World War.
No one in their right mind wants this. Fallout is a nice game, but we really don’t want to be walking around in lead-lined suits. Its in the “enlightened self-interest” of everyone to calm the eff down, and find a diplomatic solution. There is no unpushing that “big red button” – just saying.
