Earth Day 2025- 55 Year Anniversary

Earth Day 2025

By Marc W. Polite

Greetings my readers. 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day. Beginning in 1970, this day of observation is meant to focus on the environment, and the necessity of protecting it.

It is observed on April 22nd officially, but there are usually a number of events that extend throughout the week for people who aren’t available to observe during the work week.

This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet”.

The focus is to push for renewable energy sources, and reduce global reliance on eco system damaging fossil fuels.

There are questions in the minds of many people as to whether this is possible, or is it merely a daydream for environmentalists. With the current political realities of the Trump Administration slashing funding and staff from the Environmental Protection Agency, advocating for renewable energy is going against the grain. There is no question the environmental policies are going completely in the wrong direction.

However, environmental minded people understand that the issues the world face are bigger than any single politician. Wrong headed, backward looking policy will not make the reality go away.

Our power doesn’t just only refer to the electricity that keeps the lights on. It also hints at the power we need to rely on in our ongoing advocacy of course correction. It means building power to keep pushing for renewable energy, and a forward outlook.

Keep this in mind as we observe Earth Day tomorrow.
