Greetings, my readers. On this week’s author profile, we meet R.S. French. She is the author of “Shine, Sis: A Guide To Thriving and Owning Your Power. The purpose of the book is to help women embrace their confidence and heal from past wounds. Below, we hear more from R.S., and what motivated her to put this work out.
Polite On Society: Who is R.S. French? Please tell us about yourself.
R.S. French: R. S. French is a West Indian-American woman who grew up in the Bronx and learned from a very young age that adversity spares no one. As a passionate advocate for self-empowerment, sisterhood, and resilience, I conquered both PTSD and breast cancer from my time in the military. With a background rooted in leadership, personal growth, and community building, I bring a unique perspective to the art of thriving against all odds.
When R. S. French isn’t writing, she’s uplifting her community, creating safe spaces for connection and reflection, and mentoring others on their journeys to self-discovery. Her work is a celebration of the strength, beauty, and brilliance of women who refuse to dim their light for anyone. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, spending time with loved ones, and practicing self-care, always finding inspiration in the magic of everyday moments.
“Shine, Sis” Book Cover
POS: What motivated you to publish “Shine, Sis?”
RSF: My journey as a Black woman navigating life’s challenges has inspired me to create a guide for others who are ready to own their power and glow unapologetically. Essentially, I wanted to tell women everything I wanted and needed to hear all my life, from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. Instead of seeking validation externally, I began looking within, and what I found was extraordinary and powerful.
POS: Talk about the importance of releasing self doubt. Why do you think it is necessary?
RSF: Releasing self doubt is a catalyst; once you are sure of yourself and your decisions, walking in your truth becomes addicting. It is one hundred percent necessary to shed those doubts and unhelpful thoughts in order to gain new perspectives. This will propel you forward in your journey where you may have otherwise remained stagnant.
POS: What do you hope readers will take away from your guide?
RSF: I hope the take away will be validation, support, and reassurance that together we are mighty and never again will they have to feel alone.
I hope readers will be able to let out that collective breath we all hold inside as we navigate this world without the needed support we deserve as Black women.
POS: Are there any forthcoming events around your book that you want our readers to know about?
RSF: Currently, I am organizing a book tour centered around black-owned bookstores within the nation. I hope to have the details finalized within the next 6 months.
