By Marc W. Polite
Good afternoon, my readers. 2025 is a year of new beginnings, and broadened ventures. In this week’s author profile, we meet Aisha Picott. She is the author of “Confessions of a Single Wife”- which will be published on February 2, 2025. In this interview, we learn what inspires Aisha to be forthcoming about her experiences.
Polite On Society: Who is Aisha Picott? Tell us about yourself.
Aisha Picott: I am a multifaceted and gifted woman of God. I do not boast in myself but in the Lord, who has given me the gifts to do His will. I’m a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and best friend. A passionate advocate for holistic well-being, I have dedicated over twelve years to empowering and supporting women through my expertise as a licensed social worker. Guided by my faith and a profound love for God, I infuse my work and life with spiritual depth and purpose.
POS: “Confessions of a Single Wife” is an interesting name for a book. What motivated you to give it this name?
AP: To answer this question, first, I have to define “Single Wife,” which means a woman who finds herself entangled in the responsibilities of a committed relationship, pouring her heart and efforts into unreciprocated roles without the bond of matrimonial commitment. She navigates the precarious line between dedication and self-compromise, caught in a paradox of giving without guarantee.
I have found myself in numerous relationships doing “wifely duties” for a man who was not my husband, and each time they walked away, they took a piece of me with them. Over a decade ago, as the thought of a book began to form in my mind, I was sitting in a McDonald’s in lower Manhattan and remembered God giving me the book’s name. It was divinely inspired.
POS: How does your training as a certified life coach inform your advice in this book?
AP: Naturally, as a psychotherapist, my expertise lies in helping people navigate their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I have valuable insight from my clients and my real-life experiences that inform my advice in this book. Especially for women tired of giving their all to relationships and being left empty once that relationship ends. As a certified life coach, I’ve crafted transformative wellness workshops and retreats to nurture mind, body, and spirit, offering women the tools to envision and manifest their fullest potential. With pioneering workshops on vision boarding and life spring cleaning, I’ve created empowering spaces for self-discovery and growth. The epiphanies that the women have had during these workshops helped to inform my advice.
POS: Tell us about your Singles Black Travel Group.
AP: My “happy accident!” I met my fellow co-founder of our group when I found out my ex was cheating on me with her. I won’t give away the story because it’s a big section of the book, but we made lemons out of lemonade. The group consists of a diverse mix of Black and Afro-Latino-identifying members. Since the creation of the group on May 21, 2017, we have grown to over 66,000 members with state ambassadors across the U.S. We curate meetups and trips for the membership and are proud to say we have had members meet and get into relationships, find life-long friends, or even marry and have babies! We pride ourselves on offering an upscale and fun environment, and because of that, we have repeat travelers on every trip. We have our upcoming group anniversary cruise on May 10-18, 2025, to Greece, where we will board Virgin Voyages Cruises in Athens and island hop to Santorini, Rhodes, and Bodrum, and stay overnight in Mykonos! If anyone wants to join us, it’s not too late! (You don’t have to be single to go on cruise trips). You can view cabins here and email me at aishapicott@gmail.com for more information!
POS: What do you want readers to take away from “Confessions of A Single Wife”?
AP: Through ‘Confessions of a Single Wife,’ I hope readers, especially women, walk away feeling profoundly empowered not to settle for less than they deserve. I want my story to resonate with them deeply, offering relatability and recognition that others face similar challenges. I aim to remind them that they are not alone and that overcoming obstacles is entirely possible with faith, humor, and perseverance. No matter what life throws at us, we can find success in life and love because we’re all navigating these life paths together. The pre-order for the book is live and can be accessed here. The virtual book launch is on my birthday, February 2, at 1:00 pm on Facebook live here.
