Amidst the ongoing pandemic, there is another battle being waged by concerned advocates of working-class New Yorkers.
What is happening rapidly without much fanfare, is the process of converting NYCHA housing over to private management. Known formally as the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, it is proposed as a solution to a resource-starved agency to help working people get needed repairs and stay in their homes.
However, in places where it has been enacted like Kips Bay, it has meant new leases and evictions. Activists are banding together to prevent this from happening to more NYCHA residents. Find out more at the rally this Saturday. Visit the Fight For NYCHA website for other stories around this issue.
