Hip-hop fans are seeing an interesting moment in the history of the genre. This year, every list of the best emcees that is circulated online has been ruthlessly torn apart- no one can agree on any top 50 list. At a time where there are endless arguments about what constitutes a good emcee, we are seeing the documentation of the genre from those who have made an impact. Rakim released a book chronicling his journey in hip hop back in September. In November, Goin’ Off: The Story of the Juice Crew and Cold Chillin’ Records will launch.
Goin’ Off releases on November 5th, and includes recollections from artists like Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap and many others. This book details the rise and fall of this influential rap label of the late 80’s/ early 90’s. There are a few events forthcoming around this interesting book.
Friday, November 1st Book Event Signing and Discussion takes place at The ArtForm Studio in LA with honorary guest Marley Marl, Cut Chemist and Peanut Butter Wolf starting at 7:30PM. Also, in New York City on November 14th, there will be a discussion around the book with Ben Merlis and Master Ace at Powerhouse Arena Books in Brooklyn at 7pm.
