The unjustifiable shooting of Trayvon Martin has garnered a response from the President of the United States. On Friday, President Obama referred to the murder of the Florida teenager as a tragedy.More to the personal side, the president said that if he had a son, he would look like Trayvon. In his remarks today the right tone was hit as Obama called for a thorough investigation into the matter. It is commendable that he is using his platform to speak on this tragedy.
This incident, which occured on February 26th, has picked up national attention despite every attempt by the Sanford police department to cover it up. The police chief has stepped down momentarily, and the Justice Department is looking into matters. Public pressure for nearly a month in the form of protests and petitions have forced the issue on this, and it must keep going until a just outcome is reached.
