Women Make a Difference

Growing up, my grandmother always reminded my sisters and I that, “A woman’s worth is immeasurable.”

She lived those words every day. Not only was she a mother to her own children, but she also gave her time and energy to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and members of her community who lacked inspiration.

It’s hard to imagine a world without women. A world without women is lifeless, to tell you the truth. Despite history’s often inconsequential portrayal of women, their contributions are infinite.

The experiences of women around the world may differ based on culture, circumstance, and daily challenges. Yet across these differences, women continue to serve as the foundation of families and communities—as mothers, sisters, daughters, and leaders.

As a young single mother, Maya Angelou supported her son while working as a waitress and cook—a path familiar to many women striving to provide for their families independently. When her passion for music and poetry took flight, it carried her to extraordinary heights. She later inspired millions with her words and resilience, reminding us that doing what is right does not always require hesitation.

Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics, built her company on the principle of making women feel valued while empowering them to succeed as entrepreneurs. She believed that everyone wants to feel important, and that success in life begins with recognizing the worth of others. At the same time, her message also speaks to a deeper truth—women must learn to recognize their own value as well.

Still today, in many parts of the world, women are devalued, living below humane standards and underappreciated in the workplace. When we fail to acknowledge and respect women as equal contributors to social growth and development, we diminish not only their value, but our own.

And yet, women continue to lead. Today, women are at the helm of some of the world’s most successful corporations and organizations that support our global society. Historically, women have also played critical roles in shaping some of the most important decisions in human history.

Women must be uplifted in all societies. Their voices, ideas, and leadership matter.

Let’s not only honor women during Women’s History Month, but also take the time to recognize the important women in our lives every single day.
